The IAFS Bodybuilding Federation relies on qualified judges and professional officials to uphold the integrity, fairness, and efficiency of all sanctioned events. Judges and officials represent the federation on the competition floor and are held to clearly defined standards of conduct, competency, and accountability.
IaFs Judges
Role of the IAFS Judge
IAFS judges are responsible for evaluating competitors objectively and consistently based on federation criteria. Judges must apply standards without bias, external influence, or personal affiliation, ensuring fair outcomes across all divisions and classes.
Judges are expected to:

Score independently and professionally

Maintain confidentiality before, during, and after events

Judge Certification Requirements
To become an IAFS-certified judge, candidates must complete the following:
1. Written Certification Examination
Candidates must pass a written exam covering:

IAFS judging philosophy and criteria

Division and class standards

Ethics and conflict-of-interest rules

Scoring procedures and judge responsibilities
A passing score is required before advancing to live event participation.
2. Provisional Judge Period
Following successful completion of the written exam, candidates enter a Provisional Judge Period.
During this phase:

Judges serve as alternate or shadow judges at sanctioned events

Scores are reviewed internally by the Head Judge

Performance, consistency, and professionalism are evaluated
The Provisional Judge Period ensures readiness before full certification and mirrors credentialing models used in combat sports, gymnastics, and Olympic judging systems.

To remain in good standing, IAFS judges must:

All individuals serving in official capacities at IAFS-sanctioned events—judges, expediters, presenters, and support staff—are entrusted with upholding the integrity, fairness, and professionalism of the federation. While roles and responsibilities differ, expectations for conduct, preparation, and accountability remain consistent across all event personnel.
This shared standard ensures a cohesive, respectful competition environment and protects the athlete experience at every level.

IAFS Expediters
Role of the Head Expediter
Expediters manage athlete flow on and off stage, coordinate with judges and backstage staff, and ensure the show remains on schedule.
Expediters must:

Coordinate seamlessly with judges and tabulators

Maintain fairness and neutrality
Expediter Standards & Evaluation
To maintain active status, expediters are evaluated on:

Expediters who fail to meet standards may be reassigned or required to undergo retraining.

Trophy presenters represent the public-facing professionalism of the federation during awards ceremonies.
Presenters are expected to:

Expediter Staff & Event Support Personnel
Role of Support Staff
Expediter staff and support personnel assist with athlete staging, transitions, and operational logistics.
Staff must:

Protect the integrity of the competition environment
Staff Conduct & Expectations

CONTINUING STANDARDS & ACCOUNTABILITY
IAFS reserves the right to:
